Golden Princess Nov/2003 Nicky & Matt Howsare-Raleigh, North Carolina
My husband and I enjoyed a 7 night Thanksgiving cruise on the Golden Princess in 2003. This was our first cruise and certainly will not be our last. The ship was AMAZING, the service was OUTSTANDING, the food was TO DIE FOR, the weather in the Eastern Caribbean was just BEAUTIFUL at that time of year. We could not asked for a better vacation. A few things that stood out for us was the entertainment, the bars, the people and the casino (our favorit night spot). We are in our late 20's/early 30's so we like to have a good time, and that we did, no question about it. The time we had was unbelievable with Princess cruise lines. Going on another cruise with them is for sure in the near future.
Voyager of the Seas Feb/2004 Nancy - Queens, NY
In February my mother and I sailed aboard Voyager of the Sea, the largest ship in the Royal Caribbean fleet. It was my mothers first cruise and my third and I could not have chosen a better ship. The service was outstanding, the food good and wonderfully presented. The entertainment au pair to Broadway shows. My mother said that seven days were not enough and that she is definitely booking Voyager of the Sea again.
Constellation Jan/2004 Brad and Debby - Michigan
We had a marvelous time. Spent to much money, but it was well worth it. The Constellation was gorgeous and all of the staff were wonderful and lots of fun. The ports of call were beautiful (Southern Caribbean) and had a lot to do. Everything went well and all transportation issues were very smooth. I would definitely want to cruise again, in the future.
Majesty of the Sea May/2003 Mary- Ft. Myers, Florida
I went on a three day cruise on the Majesty of the Seas with my family back in May of 2003. While the weather was bad two out of three days, we still had a great time. The ship is a beautiful ship with plenty to do, although they didn't have the rock climbing wall up as of yet, which was kind of disappointing for my kids. Regardless, the food was good, the entertainment was very good and there were plenty of activities to keep my kids occupied. We can't wait for our next cruise, whenever that may be.
Norwegian Dawn May/2004 Jenny- Glen Cove, NY
The Norwegian Dawn is the most beautiful ship I have ever seen. I was very impressed the way the crew was constantly scrubbing and mopping the ship down. While the food wasnt the best I've had on a cruise ship, everything else made up for it. The entertainment was excellent and childrens program was very constructive for my son, although there wasnt that many other kids on-board in May. I would definitely recommend this cruise for anybody who lives in the NY tri-state area.(Ship leaves out of NYC) Very convenient, especially for people who dont like to fly, like myself.
Carnival Pride Sep. 5 - 12, 2004 Mexican Riviera John and Dolores McDonald & Laurie Sabo
Our first cruise and it was wonderful from beginning to end. Embarkation was fast and easy because we used the early check-in at the Carnival Pride. Lunch was ready and waiting for us and it was delicious, all the choices and a great wait staff to help. Our cabin with the extended balcony was great. We had 3 people and had enough room for everything. A few more dresser drawers would have been nice. We spent a lot of time on the balcony watching the sunrise and set, and it was pretty at night listening to the water and watching the stars. The casino was so much fun, we played just about every night and we even won! The slot hosts were not very attentive though. The shows were great and it is nice to watch again on the cabin TV. The Lido deck was GREAT the food was delicious and we liked the 24 hour pizza and ice cream. The only bad thing was having to pay about $40.00 per person for the fountain card for plain soda. After certain hours the bars where you get the soda were closed and you could not even get a soda! So we took soda and bottled water from the in room mini-bar and had to pay extra for it. Room service was delicious with speedy delivery. We filled out our order for breakfast the night before and everything was delivered at the times we specified. All in all we had a wonderful Cruise on the Pride. Everyone should take at least one cruise,---fun, fun, fun.
Sovereign of the Seas Feb. 18 - 21 Mike- Bayside, NY
I had the pleasure of going on the Sovereign of the Seas for a 3 night cruise to the Bahamas. Unfortunately, the weather in Nassau wasn't that great. The ship was a beautiful ship, but it was one of Royal Caribbeans older ships and you were able to tell in some areas of the ship. The food at dinner was very good; however, the food at the lunch buffet was not so good. The hotdogs and french fries were cold and the pizza did not have any taste to it. Besides that the cruise was fun and I would recommend it to any family with kids. I heard from the information desk that there were over 600 kids on this sailing. Out of all the cruises I have been on, Royal Caribbeans private island in the Bahamas, Coco Cay was the best. Plenty of lounge chairs, plenty of activities and water sports.
Star Princess Feb. 26 - March 5, 2005 Joe- Richwood, KY
The cruise was wonderful, shows were good, stateroom stewart was very good, and polite. His name was Ronaldo. We tipped him an extra $70, hopefully that was enough and he was happy. Montego Bay was the filthiest city I think that I've ever been in. But did enjoy "my cheeseburger in paradise" at Buffet's Place. The rest of the ports of call were fun, and the tour guides were very good. The only complaint I have from aboard ship was, nightly they leave a card in the room to request the next days morning foods, coffee, etc. Well there was also a card for requesting a fruit for the room. I filled out this card three days in a row-requesting 2 apples, 2 bananas, and 2 pears, placed it on the door handle outside our room. Never got the fruit. Got the coffee each morning, but never the got the fruit. Then came the Day from Hell. Sunday! Too many ships returning at the same time-had to stand in line curb side at the airport for over an hour, before we got into our 2 hours before flight window. Then we were pushed to the front of the line only to stand in line for another hour to get through security. We did catch our plane but it left late.
Horizon/Celebrity Cruise Line July 2, 2005 Frank - Cherry Hill, NJ
The vacation was great, had a wonderful time, but there was some things that could have been better. First let me say, Bermuda is unbelievable. I think it prettier then any island in the Caribbean and the people there are too nice for words. Me and my wife were on a horse and carriage ride in St. George, we were riding through a residential area when we saw people having a barbeque on their front lawn. They not only waved to us as we were passing by, but they also offered us soda and beer. We didnt take any, but the generosity was shocking. In Hamilton, Bermuda I went scuba diving for the first time in my life, it was one of the best things I have ever done. Unfortunately, since I am not certified I wasnt able to dive to the numerous shipwrecks around Bermuda. I strongly urge any certified scuba diver that visits Bermuda to dive when they are there.
Regarding the cruise ship, the service was very good and so was the food. The ship is one of Celebrities oldest and smallest ships and you were able to tell by some of the amenities it lacked that the newer ships have. I here Celebrity is getting rid of the ship in October, which makes sense, I think it is past its prime. The ship was kept very clean, although there were a few things that were disappointing. The pool which was very small, was also somewhat dirty the one time I went in. There were a bunch of dead flies floating in there. Also during the lunch buffet, there were always fruit flies flying around which was kind of a turn off. Regardless, I would definitely go on Celebrity again, but on one of their newer ships.
Monarch of the Seas/Royal Caribbean July 25, 2005 Raylene - Garden Grove, CA
We, my Cadet Girl Scout Troop and I, recently return from our summer cruise: aboard the Monarch of the Seas. We were very impressed with the ship and service we received. Traveling with nine teenage girls was a little stressful, but once we boarded the ship - the stress was gone.Everyone was very pleasant and knowledgeable. Our stateroom attendant, gathered all of us in one room, introduced himself and listed of all the wonderful opportunities the girls and I had available and a little friendly advice about "boys" and how to stay safe while enjoying their activities. Knowing the girls would be safe exploring the ship put my mind at ease and I was able to relax, a little, and enjoy myself as much as the girls did! The girls were thrilled to have 24 hour a day room service and the midnight chocolate buffet was out of this world. Not to forget our talented waiters who surprised us all on our last night by dancing around as they served dessert and the very cool tricks they showed the girls! Our only regret was not planning a longer cruise! With to much to see and do, four days just was not enough. The Monarch of the Seas is a family "kid-friendly" ship and offers plenty of adult activities too! It was comforting to know that my girls were being taken care of by educated, caring and well trained activity directors, while I enjoyed some leisure time on my own. This was my first cruise and it will most definitely not be my last. Thanks to our wonderful travel agent, Michael Rienzi, I was very well prepared with all the important travel documentation and information that I needed to ensure my girls had the very best possible vacation. After three years of selling cookies, planning, and hard work achieve their goal and their "dream big" trip, they deserved the best and - the look of accomplishment, mix with disbelief, on their faces- well, it was priceless. I would not have missed it for the world. We have beautiful memories for a life time. Dreams are possible - you just have to believe and stay dedicated!
Costa Magica/Costa Cruise Line September 11, 2005 Michele - Bayville, NY
Just back from my cruise in Europe on the Costa Magica. The ship was very nice, although the layout was somewhat confusing. Deck 10 and several other decks didn't go all the way through. We had to go down one level to Deck 9, walk across and then walk up one flight to reach our cabin on Deck 10. This is also true with Decks 3 and 4, where you have to walk through Deck 5 in order to reach some of the areas. Also, the port of Tunis was horrible. Why any cruise line would stop in such an unsafe, poverty stricken area is beyond me. Even though we were on a guided tour, we still were being surrounded at times by people begging us for money or to buy their junk. There were also armed guards with machine guns who I'm sure would shoot first and ask questions later. I already sent Costa a letter and also putdown on the survey how horrible it is. This was our 4th cruise on Costa and although they told me they had us down as Costa frequent travelers, we didn't receive any kind of perks, special treatment or even a cocktail party for past cruisers like they do on some other ships. Also, the strange thing about this ship is that people were constantly getting on and off the ship at every port, so you would constantly keep seeing new people in the dining room, etc. It didn't affect us though since we had a table for two, but I think when everyone is on the same 7 day itinerary like the other cruise lines, you develop more of a camaraderie together and not just people who are fly by nights, here one day gone the next. I would be curious to learn what the minimum # of nights you can stay on this ship is. It seemed like a ton of young people would come on the ship and just stay the weekend. The specialty restaurant on the Costa Magica is not worth the $20.00 per person surcharge as it only has 4 main entrees on the menu and it is the same menu each night. We ate there the first night and had booked it for 3 other nights but were very disappointed by the quality of the food and the selection, so I cancelled the other nights and ate in the dining room. I ordered filet mignon and the meat was very tough and overcooked. I sent it back and the second steak was totally rare but still tough. If it wasn't for the ambience, it would have been a horrible dinner. In general we had a pretty good time, but not sure we would choose another Costa cruise.
